What it's all about
This projects aims are to help older people who are housebound, by offering a volunteer service which ensures they will receive regular phone calls from Student Volunteers so they can have contact with the outside world.
This project will not only benefit the older people but also the students themselves. The volunteers will receive training to ensure they have the skills necessary to take part in the project. There will be regular meetings to allow the volunteers to get to know each other better and to raise any issues that they might have over a cup of tea and cake. There will also be further training if required.
We are currently working with United Benificent Society (UBS) to hold a Christmas party for the older people where we will helping to make decorations, crackers and centre pieces, talking, dancing and socialising with the older people to ensure they have an enjoyable time.

I think this is a fantastic project that you're running at Northumbria, it's such a simple but very beneficial way to volunteer your time. The Christmas Party sounds like a really great way to get all the volunteers and elderly people together.
As you are a student at Northumbria you can access up to £750 to turn your idea into a reality.
