What it's all about
I want to unite young and old in a small village/countryside community where I live (near Petworth in West Sussex), and ensure that an old craft is kept alive. I love the idea of knitting, quite literally, 'knitting' a community and keeping it together. Not only could the older generations impart their knitting knowledge, but it is a cheap and easy past time for young and old, requiring very little/cheap materials, and fairly minimal expertise. It is the sort of skill which you have a useful product at the end, and also which I could bring a charity element into - knitting blankets for orphans and suchlike. This would therefore give both young and old a reason for getting together, and a combined aim.
The name sprang up when I was thinking about the concept itself - it is not new, I know that 'Stitch&Bitch' exists. But I find this has negative, nasty connotations, and I wanted a name which conveys the positivity of the cause. Knitting has recently become popular with celebrities, and in these economically tight times, will likely be the sort of pasttime that people can take up, but need more education about. I have my eye on a shop in Petworth - and I thought that I could have amusing quotes up on the wall - the 'Wits' side of the name.
What's needed to make it a reality
Encouragement as well - I love knitting, but I'm not exactly what I would say is an expert - and this might make some poo poo the idea!

This sounds like a fantastic project and having looked around the internet a little bit, similar things are happening everywhere and everyone is getting involved.
Below are a few websites I found which have knitting patterns and other bits of information, which might be useful to you. One of them also has a knitting video, which might give you some idea of how to film a knitting video. If you do produce some videos, you can upload them here to this site through the 'Videos' application here on your idea.
