Dear Diary.
Out of control is now over and it has been a fun yet looooooooooooooong road. I wasnt sure that the event was even going to happen as at one point Junction 49 was the only organisation that was willing to fund the event. As the event progressed we recieved a venue and I was sure that this event was going to be all that I wanted it to.
As the event progerssed I found it difficult to get people to come and speak. The cause was important for them but at the same time there are a lot of anti-gun and knife crime projects so I found myself fighting against many teams for people to get involved whether it be as a speaker or an attendee.
As the day got closer I became more confident of its success, mainly beacuse the flyer looked soo good (Designed by EKASOA). Seeing the event on paper reassured me as well as the speakers that this iswill be a day to really be proud of.
It was the week of the event and we could feel the buzz in the air from the young people. I thank Paddington Development Trust for all their help and supplying some great t-shirts.
On the day of the event we had many young people who really put their points across and spoke their mind to the Police, Trident and Crimestoppers. This is important as this is a rarity for them to come in contact with people from these organisations on a positive note. It is also wonderfull that they learnt so much and took a lot away from the event.
The after show was great but it was a shame that many families that had lost loved ones were unable to speak about how it affected them. I would like to thank IZM for providing an excellent hard hitting short film ENEMY FRIEND on the realities of gun crime (It was straight ROAD!)
I am really happy with the way the event went and I see it as a success by far. We had great discussions, entertainment and food whilst promoting the same message PUT DOWN THE GUNZ AND KNIVES.
I am happy to say that I have been asked to continue this event and the next stop is Haringey!
I would like to thank Junction 49 for all their help.
P.S.
dont 4get to check out the pics.
