What it's all about
I would like to set up an area with in my university campus whereby I could plant 30-50 fern trees. I would like them to be relatively small so that I might give them at Christmass time as a token to families in need or community organisations of olderly homes in my area. The trees that remain if for some reason we are not able to give them all out then will be grown and used in our university the following year.
To start this up however maybe we could find some organisation who already effectively pick up old and unwanted trees still remaining in shops or outside people's houses so that we can start up some sort of nursery with them instead and not just from scratch.
What's needed to make it a reality
Trees
Products for growing them.

A couple of things about Christmas tree recycling:
"7.5 million Christmas trees were bought in 2001. Some councils reported their Christmas tree recycling activities for early 2001 to EnCams. The total number of Christmas trees reported to be recycled was nearly 1.2 million."

This is a sweet idea...you could even plant other types of trees as well?
